Gaps in awareness, advocacy, data on good practices, and the compelling need for new visions of society that portray groups underrepresented at the post-secondary level from a point of strength, an ‘asset-based’ perspective, rather than from the point of view of their deficiencies, visions that acknowledge the need for inclusive pedagogies and inclusive curriculums, these are the among the many and complex issues that will shape the work of GAPS.

  • To build the evidence base for increasing access to post-secondary education
  • To instigate the cultural transformation in organizations necessary to achieve our vision
  • To build a global network of organizations and individuals committed to increasing access to post-secondary education from the public, private and voluntary sectors and policymakers
  • To place students and young people at the core of our efforts to improve access to and success in post-secondary education
  • To create awareness of inequities in access to technology and innovation-related disciplines and encourage new pathways to STEM
  • To champion equality of access to the use of ICT at all levels in the post-secondary pathway and in creating new opportunities for post-secondary access and success in formal and informal learning systems
  • To promote equality of access to post-secondary education for minorities and indigenous peoples around the world as well as inclusive campuses and pedagogies
  • To initiate and encourage innovative and exemplar projects supporting participation in post-secondary education which can be scaled up globally, notably through institutional-community engagement (‘third mission’).
  • To develop innovative visions, strategies and methodologies on inclusive pedagogy, support and curriculum that are responsive to current policy and global challenges and sensitive to the ‘worlds’ and voices of those youth that represent a hidden potential for human capital but for a variety of reasons do not see themselves represented in current systems and policies.
